Take the 4Daagse Recovery Check
Find out in 3 minutes where you are leaving recovery gains on the table ahead of the 4Daagse
Four days of walking does not mean starting from zero four times.
Each day you start with what you built up – or neglected – the day before.
How strong do you start on day 3?
Take the Flamengo 4Daagse Recovery Check and discover where you lose load capacity and how to improve it in concrete terms. Developed by Flamengo, official recovery partner of the 4Daagse.
- Takes 3 minutes
- Instant personal recovery profile
Why recovery is different at the 4Daagse
Over four consecutive walking days, the strain builds up:
- Muscle tension increases
- Circulation does not fully recover
- Fatigue affects your walking pattern
- Small signals become bigger
Recovery therefore rests on several pillars:
- Nutrition
- Hydration
- Sleep
- Load management
- Physical support between stages
This check shows where your weakest link is.

The Recovery Check
Answer the questions with YES or NO.
Count your NO answers per category.
A. Nutrition & Hydration
- Do I eat within 60 minutes of a long walk?
- Do I make sure I get enough protein every day during training weeks?
- Do I top up electrolytes/minerals as well as water?
B. Sleep
- Do I sleep at least 7 hours after heavy training days?
- Do I wake up without noticeable stiffness?
C. Muscle Tension & Circulation
- Do I pay attention to relaxing my lower legs on the same day?
- Do I actively support my circulation after strenuous exercise?
- Do I use recovery methods as the load increases (such as compression, massage or heat)?
D. Cumulative Load Capacity
- Does my walking pattern stay stable after several training days?
- Do my legs not feel heavier towards day 3 of a training block?
Your Result
Count the number of NO answers per category.
2 or more NO in A (Nutrition & Hydration)
Your recovery may be limited by insufficient replenishment.
This can lead to:
- Slower muscle recovery
- Feeling tired sooner
- Less stable muscle function
Gains from improving:
- A fresher start on day 2
- More consistent energy levels
Advice:
- Eat within 30–60 minutes after exercise
- Combine carbohydrates and protein
- Drink enough water and use electrolytes over longer distances

2 or more NO in B (Sleep)
Insufficient sleep affects recovery processes.
This can lead to:
- Morning stiffness
- Higher muscle tension
- More cumulative fatigue
Gains from improving:
- Faster relaxation
- Better load capacity over several days
Advice:
- Keep regular sleeping times
- Create a moment of calm before bed. That could be reading a book, avoiding screens, a meditation, no more coffee in the evening or a relaxation ritual with the massage mat or sauna blanket.
2 or more NO in C (Muscle Tension & Circulation)
With multi-day exertion, this is often where the biggest gains lie.
Insufficient support can lead to:
- Calves that feel heavier
- A less fluid walking pattern
- Increasing tension towards day 3
Gains from improving:
- Lighter legs the next morning
- More comfort between stages
Advice:
- Pay attention to relaxation on the same day
- Support your circulation after strenuous exercise
- Consider targeted recovery methods such as compression, massage or infrared heat
Flamengo focuses specifically on this physical recovery component between stages.
2 or more NO in D
Your body may not be recovering sufficiently between consecutive efforts.
This can lead to:
- Building tension
- Less efficient movement
- Reduced load capacity towards days 3 and 4
Gains from improving:
- A more consistent walking pattern
- Fewer energy dips
- Greater overall load capacity
Advice:
- Test multi-day training blocks
- Combine nutrition, sleep and physical support
